Inspired by the novel The Road, by Cormac McCarthy.

“When I awoke, I found myself lying on a vast, sandy shore. The raft that had carried me was mostly destroyed and lay in large, jagged pieces around me.The sun hid behind a gray veil of clouds; it appeared to be midday.

A row of ancient mansions faced the eastern beach. Once well-maintained and groomed lawns of rather large proportions stretched out in front of equally grand, weather-worn porches. A light breeze from the north gave life to the dead, heavy branches of massive oaks lining old pathways.

And I was alone. Feeling even smaller in the presence of these large manors. No creature emerged from the brush or hid in the empty window frames. No form of life could be spotted within.

From there, I walked the lonely road, in search of the inexplicable.”

why moving to san francisco is going to be the most amazing thing ever

1. new start. like freshmen on the first day of high school, moving to san francisco allows me to being anew. no one is going to keep me from being me. everyone gets to take me at face value, and not base me off of some facebook profile.

2. mountains are a quick drive away. granted, it may be a “quick” 2 hours, but 2 hours from chicago is nothing of appeal. being so close to so much natural wonder and beauty just makes me smile.

3. actively pursuing my dreams, as opposed to sitting on my ass, following some typical career path, or whatever everyone else is doing these days. it takes a lot of determination and independence to get off the boob and take control of your own life. moving 3000 miles away forces me to grab that steering wheel and chase down my goals. no longer can i be blind; it gives me the blessed opportunity to prove that anything is possible, as long as your take that first step towards it.

4. having my own apartment. not something paid for by my parents or a lame-ass dorm or bumming off someone else. getting to put a roof over my own head and fill it with things that make me happy. no fridge full of expired, over-processed foods. no microwaves. no unnecessary knick-knacks or space-wasting storage.

5. living in the most beautiful city in america. nothing else compares. the hills, the bay, the ocean, the woods, everything is right there and everything is so beautiful.

6. never dealing with annoying chicago weather. never again will i see the week go from 70 degrees and drop to 10 the next. consistent, warm, manageable weather. never lower than 40 and never higher than 80. perfection.

7. a super healthy and vegan-friendly environment. san franciscans are generally much healthier than mid-westerners. lots of veggies and farmers markets and hills to work out.
